Nativity scene

A teenager has been arrested in connection with the theft of an illuminated baby Jesus figurine from a nativity scene in the Borders village of Newcastleton.

Residents were angered by the vandalism to the festive display which also had power cables cut. The Nativity scene has been a feature of Newcastleton's Christmas celebrations for over 10 years.

The whereabouts of the missing baby Jesus model, valued at £250, was still not known.

After hearing about the loss, Carlisle company Crown Bevcan have made a £300 donation to the Liddesdale Ladies Action Group in Newcastleton to purchase a replacement Jesus.
