Tributes paid to Compass Christian Centre Instructor

Tributes have been paid to Compass Christian Centre instructor Joe Pancaldi who was found dead in the lower half of Raven Gully on Buachaille Etive Mor recently. Mr Pancaldi was on holiday in Glencoe when the accident happened,

Mr Pancaldi, originally from Colchester, Essex, moved to Glenshee two years ago to work as a trainee instructor for the Compass Christian Centre at Glenshee Lodge, Perthshire.

The centre manager Ruth McBean described Joe as inspirational, bright, joyful and compassionate. She added that he brought joy to so many people in his short lifetime.

The centre, based close to Blairgowrie, hosts youth and church groups which can take part in activities including climbing, abseiling, kayaking, skiing and archery.

Ruth McBean described Joe Pancaldi as “an amazing young man who was very passionate about life and was loved by his colleagues and guests alike".

Having grown up in a Christian family from Essex he wanted to have the opportunity to combine his two passions in life – his faith and the outdoors. He came to the centre just under two years ago to become a trainee outdoors instructor and, through his skilled leadership and instruction, hundreds of young people have enjoyed the excitement and challenge of the outdoors in Scotland. He was enthusiastic about everything he did, a great role model and team player with a great sense of fun. His Christian faith was both strong and contagious.

According to Ruth McBean, “This, along with his love for God and people, made him stand out from the crowd – an exceptional person and one who was admired by all who met him.”
